During these very difficult times, we as The Church are called to support our communities. We again have an opportunity to support our families and children in Metro Nashville Public Schools during our city’s response to COVID-19 as schools are closed at least through April 3. We have been working closely with Central Office staff to understand where support is most needed. Read on to find out how your church can support our schools.

Midtown Fellowship East Nashville has been serving in Stratford High School for the past two years, focusing efforts towards supporting the teachers and providing materials and learning opportunities for students. St. George’s Episcopal Church has been growing their Light on Literacy Missional Community over the past three years to partner with Buena Vista Elementary in tutoring, student enrichment, and family engagement! Reverend Martin Odidi, of Nigeria, visited the school in October to share Nigerian children’s stories, songs, and culture with students. Read more about their growing partnership here.

Participation in this program has connected United4Hope staff to a network of professionals doing similar work across the country to understand best practices, trends, and initiatives. Read more about the 2019 Harvard LIFE Convening here.
Fellowship Nashville began the Adopt a Teacher initiative four years ago as a way to show support and appreciation for Waverly Belmont’s staff. When Calvary United Methodist Church became a partner at the school two years ago, they joined in on the program too! Families, singles, small groups, and friend groups are matched with a teacher and then reach out to the teacher once per month.
The Student Ministry from Donelson Family at First Baptist planned the Back To School Splash at Pennington Elementary. Over 50 volunteers helped to prepare and serve food, lead activities, and conduct a drawing for two Tennessee Titans tickets for the October 27th game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Our church community partners volunteered with our school partners at back to school events throughout the city in July and August. From community festivals, backpack drives, free haircuts, bouncy houses, meet the teacher nights, and more, our church partners were out and about supporting their schools.
Strong Tower Bible Church spearheaded Bless Fest at Carter Lawrence Elementary in the heart of Edgehill at the end of June.
